Leadership
How Over What
Sometimes, the deepest truths slip out in passing.
Listening to the recent podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce, Taylor Swift said something about Andy Reid, head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs:
“When you lose your shit, you lose your leadership.”
It wasn’t a speech.
It wasn’t theory.
It was an observation.
It was a mantra of hers that she embraces in her leadership style.
It might be the cleanest definition of modern leadership I’ve ever heard.
The backstory was about how Andy never loses his composure and how he commands the respect of his players and the team, even when he shows his heart (read discipline).
The results speak for themselves.
NOW: The Fragility of Authority
We live in a time where leadership is brittle.
One outburst. One misstep. One moment of losing composure
and the authority you’ve built can collapse.
Because leadership today isn’t inherited. It’s earned, sustained, and tested daily.
The leaders we remember, on teams, in companies, in communities, aren’t the ones who barked loudest.
They’re the ones who held steady.
Who didn’t flinch when the storm arrived.
Who carried the weight without making it heavier for others.
Ask yourself:
~ When pressure rises, do you steady the room—or shake it?
~ What do people remember more: your words, or your composure?
~ Would your team say you add calm or add chaos?
NEW: The Qualities That Endure
From Reid’s sideline presence to Stoic philosophy, the patterns are clear.
Great leadership blends:
Composure - you don’t get rattled by noise.
Focus - you know what matters most and return to it.
Heart - you genuinely want people to grow.
Discipline - you do it the right way, even when shortcuts tempt you.
Trust - people know you see their potential before they see it themselves.
It’s not about charisma.
It’s not about control.
It’s about clarity, plus that extra 1% of belief you lend to others when they doubt themselves.
Ask yourself:
~ Which of these traits do you already carry?
~ Which ones need sharpening?
~ Do you lead in a way that makes others want to be better or just behave?
NEXT: Leadership That Lasts
The future of leadership won’t be defined by louder voices or a tighter grip.
It will be defined by composure in chaos, clarity in uncertainty, and belief when belief feels scarce.
The best leaders won’t just manage tasks.
They’ll elevate people.
They’ll design environments of trust, focus, and fun without forgetting seriousness.
And here’s the truth:
We all lead someone.
A team. A family. A circle of friends.
The question isn’t if you’re leading.
The question is: how are you leading?
The Payoff: Your Leadership Is Your Legacy
In the Now, we see how fragile authority becomes when composure breaks.
In the New, we recognize the enduring traits that inspire loyalty.
In the Next, we choose to lead with steadiness, not because it’s easy, but because it lasts.
Ask yourself:
~ What does your leadership style feel like to others?
~ Would you follow you?
Because in the end, leadership isn’t about title, tenure, or trophies.
It’s about presence.
And when you lose that, you lose it all.
"Respecting people is an important part of life, whether it's the person doing janitorial work or the person above you. It doesn't matter who you are." ~ Andy Reid

This what the show "Ted Lasso" demonstrated in spades. Great piece my friend.
