I was recently challenged to define what I do. So, I decided to eat my own dog food - as they say in Silicon Valley - and decided to draft a Manifesto.
My craft is my zone of genius. I see every narrative design as a piece of art.
Treat each narrative design as if it is your own. The pride of ownership is everything.
Be different. Not better.
Seek clarity and simplicity over jargon and complexity.
Build for expansion and contraction, so your output will survive the temperature change.
Understand the atoms but design for the bits.
Always be driven by curiosity and the courage of an explorer.
Never Prescribe. Co-generate to ensure inclusive input.
Your future is always unwritten, so live it forward.
You are the sum of your stories. You are a perpetual mosaic.
A journey by definition is never linear, embrace the spatial.
Stand with conviction. Yield to improvement.
It's not about the perfection. It is about the dialog.
Pull is a magnet. Push is an opinion.
Expression is a direct reflection of the soul.
Embrace the Uncanny Value1 for it is our field of play.
Have fun.
NOW (How you are realizing this today)
This entire exercise was inspired by the Doer Manifesto by the Do Team.
Do you have a Manifesto?
Try one on. They are kind of cathartic.
NEW (How you will realize this tomorrow)
Design a personal Manifesto by next week. Share it back with me.
Dig in at work. Does your company have a Manifesto?
If your company doesn’t have a Manifesto, could you write one to share internally?
NEXT (I see a world in which)
I see a world in which every person and company has a Manifesto for how they operate and view the world and it is prominently displayed for all to better understand why that is so.
